More about Macronutrient Preload
By ingesting a smaller amount of nutrients, macronutrients (in most studies 30 minutes before meal), one is stimulating these nutrients to reach the small intestine and release hormones that control digestion (like GLP-1 and GIP) faster, thus slowing down the stomach emptying. This, in turn, leads to a “false start” both of the hormones release (e.g. insulin) and the feeling of saturation before the main meal, with the result that postprandial (“after-meal”) blood sugar response slows down.
